This event, which began in 1990, has become an iconic Kiwi festival. Loosely based on the opening of the whitebait season, it’s widened to become a celebration of the West Coast’s rugged individuality, as symbolised by an intrepid willingness to eat anything for a dare. Dishes range from the lesser-eaten end of the mammal family – possums, rabbits and hares feature heavily – right down to the invertebrate world, where even earthworms and insects find themselves surprise additions to the human foodchain. For the squeamish and the fainthearted, there’s plenty more conventional fare on offer, from the Blackball Salami Company’s superb goods to Monteith’s Brewery’s excellent beer.

Kiwi Talent on our Main Stage – Our New Zealand elite military band with show stopping music performances - Hokitika Homegrown show cases our local West Coast talent which will keep you entertained for hours!

The Feral Fashion Competition has become an icon of the Wildfoods Festival with Bigger & Better Prizes. So Feral Beasts and Beauties it's time to start designing and creating your masterpiece!
