GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS OF HIRE FOR TRAVEL BETWEEN 1st APRIL 2025 TO 31st MARCH 2026
If your travel dates are after 31st March 2026 T&C's may vary. If not currently published please email for clarification if required

IF THE CLIENT CANNOT SHOW A VALID CREDIT CARD, PASSPORT OR ID AND A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE THE VEHICLE IS DEEMED TO BE NOT COLLECTED.

Campervans cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category. McRent only guarantees a specific group, NOT a specific vehicle. Seats and berths may vary.

INSURANCE OPTIONS

PLEASE NOTE: awning damage is not covered by insurance. An awning is affixed to all McRent motorhomes but the handle to operate it is not included unless requested. Please be aware that awning damages are not covered by the insurance and all damage costs are the renter’s responsibility.

STANDARD RATE (minimum level of insurance and included in the quoted rate). Standard rate leaves you still to pay a Bond/Excess of NZ$7,500 (credit card bank pre-authorisation for hires under 21 days). If hires are 21 days or more, the bond will be charged to the credit card.
Excess up to NZ$7,500 for any loss or damage, and for any consequential loss or damage, during the term of the hire. This means if the vehicle is damaged while rented by you, you will be liable for either the cost of repairs, or up to the amount of the insurance excess (provided McRent's terms & conditions of hire are adhered to).

Or options as below can be taken to reduce the liability bond/excess. (Options are payable at the depot).

Liability Excess/Bond Reduction Insurance cover options:

OPTION 1: LIABILITY REDUCTION COVER: for NZ$39 per day reduces excess/bond to NZ$1000 (Credit Card Bank pre-authorisation).
NZ$1,000 is limited for the first collision only. Applies only in case of accident. Deductible for any following collision is NZ$7,500.

OPTION 2: LIABILITY REDUCTION COVER: for NZ$69 per day reduces excess/bond to NZ$500 (Credit Card Bank pre-authorisation). Road User Charge (RUC) is included.
NZ$500 is limited for the first collision only. Applies only in case of accident. Deductible for any following collision is NZ$7,500.

OPTION 3: LIABILITY REDUCTION COVER: for NZ$89 per day reduces excess/bond to NZ$0 (Credit Card Bank pre-authorisation). Road User Charge (RUC) is included.
NZ$0 is limited for the first collision only. Applies only in case of accident. Deductible for any following collision is NZ$7,500.

ROAD USER CHARGES (for Diesel vehicles).
The Road User Charge is NZ$8.04 per 100kms. Included in the Bond Reduction Option 2 Insurance.

ONE WAY HIRES
For one way hires between Christchurch and Auckland or vice versa the minimum hire period is 10 days at all times.

One way fees are as follows:
Hires where pickup is between 1 April and 30 September 2025:
Auckland to Christchurch travel - one way fee of $150
Christchurch to Auckland travel - no one way fee

Hires where pickup is between 1 October 2025 and 31 March 2026:
Auckland to Christchurch travel - one way fee of $250
Christchurch to Auckland travel - one way fee of $150

MINIMUM HIRE PERIOD
The minimum hire period is between 6 days and 15 days depending on the season. Minimum hire increases to 15 days between 16 December and 28 February. These are subject to change during peak seasons.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY
Depot is closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Good Friday, but may open on other public holidays with surcharges.

PICK UP INSTRUCTIONS
AUCKLAND
The airport and airport hotels transfer service is complimentary for pick-up and drop-off upon request. All transfers need to be pre-booked. Any other locations please make your own way.
Airport to Depot:
If you are arriving on a flight, domestic or international, please email us your passenger numbers, flight Number, Arrival time and contact number The driver will be inside by arrivals with a sign of your name.
If you stay in airport hotels, please email us your passenger numbers, hotel name, pick up time and contact number. The driver will call you when it is ready. Please make sure your phone number is available.
Note: We may not be able to assist any unusual luggage, please check with our team.
Auckland city is very large and for customers who are staying in Auckland city for a night they will have to make their own way to our branch by taxi or Uber, or they can go to the airport and from the airport they can jump in our free shuttle.
Depot to Airport:
Please let us know your drop off time on your pick-up day so that we can arrange this for you. Otherwise, we may not be able to accommodate or amend in later due to high volume demand.

CHRISTCHURCH
The airport and airport hotels transfer service is complimentary for pick-up and drop-off upon request. All transfers need to be pre-booked 72 hours prior. If you require a transfer to/from the CBD for collection or return, please let us know. We can arrange this for your own cost. (Price upon request)
Airport to Depot:
If you are arriving on a flight, domestic or international, please email us your passenger numbers, flight Number, Arrival time and contact number. Transfers will be waiting at the shuttle pickup area and should have the McRent Logo shown.
If you stay in airport hotels, please email us your passenger numbers, hotel name, pick up time and contact number. The driver will call you when it is ready. Please make sure your phone number is available.
Note: We may not be able to assist any unusual luggage, please check with our team.
Transfers collected from the airport will be booked 40 minutes after landing time for domestic flights and 75 minutes after landing time for international flights. Please do not call us if you arrive early. The transfer will show up on time and wait for a total of 10 minutes. If flight delays, Driver will call customers.
Depot to Airport:
Please let us know your drop off time on your pick-up day so that we can arrange this for you. Otherwise, we may not be able to accommodate or amend in later due to high volume demand.

Early Pick Up/Late Drop Off outside of depot opening hours: NZ$50 per every extra hour/part of an hour.

DRIVERS LICENCES
All drivers must be over 25 years, and hold a full and current New Zealand driver's licence for 2 years (before rental), or an International Driving Licence, or a licence from the country of origin with English translation by an accredited translator. There is no extra charge for an additional driver.

CANCELLATION FEES
92 Days and over: NZ$250 Admin Fee
30 - 91 Days: 30% of Total Reservation cost: Minimum NZ$500
29 - 7 Days: 80% of Total Reservation cost
0 - 7 Days: 100% of Total Reservation cost
No Show: 100% of Total Reservation cost
If a vehicle is returned early for any reason there is no refund available.

AMENDMENTS
Any amendment made to decrease the length of the hire is at the discretion of McRent and the booking may be treated as a cancellation.

REFUNDS
No refunds can be given for any unused portion of your holiday including late pick up or early return of vehicle. However your travel insurance may in some circumstances cover the unused portion. Refunds for hires paid and cancelled prior to pick up will be subject to our cancellation policy.

AVAILABILTY OF VEHICLE
Campervans cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category group. In the unlikely event that the campervan is not available at the commencement of your rental due to it being repaired from a mechanical breakdown or accident or late in return from a previous rental then we will endeavour to substitute another campervan in its place. If your rental period is reduced or delayed as a result then you will be entitled to a refund of any monies paid for the period of the rental that the campervan was not provided. We will not be liable for any other costs, charges or damages (whether consequential or not) as a result of a delay in providing or a failure to provide the campervan. All rights are reserved to refuse any hire under any circumstance.
